Losing a loved one can devastate family and friends, especially when the death was preventable. A fatally injured 29-year-old woman was recently left lying in the street. Apparently, the North Carolina woman was killed in a car accident and the driver took off from the scene. Authorities are still on the hunt for the alleged hit-and-run driver.
The tragic incident happened on a recent Sunday morning on the highway. Police believe that the woman may have been on foot in the area at the time. She was discovered near the county line after authorities were contacted about a woman’s body in the middle of the road. Authorities are still trying to piece together what happened, especially since the area surrounding where the body was found has only trees for quite some distance.
Authorities believe that the woman was hit by a car; and, when they arrived at the scene, she was already deceased. Officers also believe that the driver who committed this act never bothered to stop. Officials are asking for the public’s help to assist with the investigation in the hope of finding who and what was responsible for the woman’s death.
When someone is killed in a car accident, it brings about an intense amount of emotional turmoil, especially when the other party is an alleged hit-and-run driver. If located, the driver could face criminal and civil liability such as jail time and legal action. The surviving family of the deceased woman may wish to initiate a wrongful death claim against the driver to recover funeral costs and emotional damage. The civil court system in North Carolina typically adjudicates these types of claims based upon evidence that the other party operated in a negligent manner which resulted in death.
