Stay out of a semitruck's blind spots when you drive near them

Driving near semitrucks requires a lot of caution and patience. It is really easy to forget that driving one of these large trucks is more difficult than driving a regular vehicle. There are many things that truckers need to do all at once and there are some limitations to what is possible when driving these large vehicles.

One issue that comes up when you are driving around semitrucks is making sure that you stay out of the trucker's blind spots. These are much larger than what you have to deal with in your car because of the size of the trailer and cab on the semitruck.

There is a blind spot in front of the truck, which makes trying to dart in this space very dangerous. There is one on each side of the truck that expands one lane on the driver's side or two on the passenger side. The final blind spot is in the back of the truck. The general rule is that the trucker can't see your vehicle if you can't see the trucker when you look at the semitruck.

Even if you are respecting these blind spots, other drivers might not. There is a chance that another driver will cut in front of the truck or drive in the side or rear blind spots. This could lead the trucker to have to take evasive maneuvers that might end up causing an accident. In these cases, as well as instances in which the accident is caused by another semitruck-related factor, you might decide to seek compensation for the injuries you suffer in the crash.
