Aggressively Fighting for Injured Victims in North Carolina

What are the top causes of construction injuries?

| Aug 7, 2017 | Construction Accidents |

Millions upon millions of people work in the construction industry. While this fast paced environment may suit you well, it’s important to remember one thing: You could suffer a serious injury at some point.

It’s a good idea to understand the most common causes of construction injuries. This knowledge alone can go a long way in helping you avoid trouble during your workday.

Here are some of the many situations that often lead to construction injuries:

  • Slip-and-fall. This can happen at ground level or at height. Either way, a slip-and-fall accident can cause a serious injury, such as a broken bone or concussion.
  • Falling objects. When construction workers are completing a task at height, there is always a chance that an object could fall and strike a person standing below.
  • Equipment accidents. Many types of equipment can be found on a construction site. For example, forklifts and power tools are extremely common. While both of these can help get the job done, they are also dangerous if not used in the appropriate manner.
  • Fires and explosions. These types of accidents may not be common, but they can come into play. For example, a fire can be the result of exposed wiring.
  • Repetitive motion injury. Construction workers often overlook this injury, but it’s a serious problem nonetheless. Over time, the same type of physical labor can result in a repetitive motion injury.

These are among the most common causes of construction injuries, but it’s not a complete list. There are many other circumstances that can lead to an injury.

If you suffer any type of injury, regardless of the cause, you should stop what you are doing to receive medical treatment.

From there, report the accident and your injuries to your employer. You should make it clear that your injury was a direct result of your employment.

Finally, you can learn more about filing a workers’ compensation claim. This is often the best way to receive compensation until you are able to return to your job.
