North Carolina Man Arrested for Hit-and-Run Auto Accident

A 29-year-old man was recently killed after being involved in a car accident. North Carolina authorities indicate that the auto accident was a hit-and-run, and the driver allegedly at-fault was arrested. The driver has been charged with reckless homicide.

The collision happened on an early Saturday morning when two pedestrians were walking on the roadway. The suspect, who was driving a Honda SUV, veered off the road and hit both of the pedestrians. After the crash, the suspect reportedly fled the area. Medics transported both of the pedestrians to the hospital where one of them was later pronounced dead. The other party’s condition has not been reported.

Authorities were able to locate the suspect after they discovered a vehicle at his home. Initially, the driver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing bodily injury. Since then, his charges were upgraded after one of the victims died. At last report, the suspect is being held on a $300,000 bail.

An auto accident can cause a multitude of burdens for victims and their families, especially when it’s revealed that a loved one has been taken from them. As the family of the deceased pedestrian plans his funeral, they may have legal recourse to file a wrongful death claim against the alleged hit-and-run driver. The other injured pedestrian may also have similar rights to pursue civil action under our North Carolina personal injury laws. Successfully litigated claims may result in a civil courtroom awarding the family and the injured victim financial relief in amounts deemed appropriate.
