Law enforcement authorities reported that two women were killed and two other people were injured due to injuries suffered in a hit-and-run accident in Raleigh. The accident allegedly occurred on Nov. 1 at 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road.
Authorities state that a 28-year-old Louisberg man driving a 1998 Honda attempted to make a left turn from New Bern Avenue onto Trawick Road. As he turned, a dark Chevy Avalanche allegedly ran a red light, broadsiding the Honda. The two women, an 18-year-old and a 24-year-old, were passengers in the Honda. They were both killed, and two others inside of the Honda were injured. The Honda’s driver was not injured in the accident.
According to police, the driver of the Avalanche sped away instead of stopping at the accident scene. Police state the Avalanche is possibly black in color with a dark gray bumper. Police continue to investigate the accident. They have asked that anyone who has information contact the Raleigh Police Department.
Many people are killed or injured in car accidents each year in North Carolina due to the negligent actions of other drivers. When people are involved in an accident, the law provides that they have a duty to stop and try to render aid to those injured. In cases like this one in which the negligent driver flees, he or she may suffer increased criminal penalties for his or her actions.
