Driving under the influence causes numerous accidents on North Carolina roadways every year. One of the more recent car accidents caused a man to suffer a significant head injury. This accident took place right outside the victim’s home and was blamed on a man who was allegedly driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
This accident occurred on a local residential street known to have a steep incline. The driver of a small SUV apparently lost control of his vehicle, causing him to swerve and strike a parked car. The impact of this collision caused a chain reaction, and two other parked cars were soon included in this multi-vehicle accident.
The man who was hit was apparently working under the hood of his vehicle at the time of the collision. As a result of the impact, he suffered head injuries and reportedly lost a lot of blood. The current condition of the victim is unknown. He was treated at the scene of the accident but reportedly declined transportation to the hospital.
The driver deemed responsible for this accident has been is facing a number of charges regarding the crash. According to local law enforcement, it is believed the driver had been under the influence of certain narcotic drugs at the time of the accident. He was charged with driving under the influence and driving on a revoked driver’s license.
While the victim in this case may have declined immediate medical attention after the crash, the full extent of his injuries may not have been obvious right away. Some injuries resulting from car accidents may take time to fully manifest themselves, and the medical treatment required for recovery can create a significant financial burden. Aside from the criminal charges that have been filed against the driver in this case, the victim may also be entitled to file a personal injury claim against him. If successfully litigated, a North Carolina civil court could grant this victim financial compensation to help in recouping the monetary losses sustained as a result of the crash and to provide for his pain and suffering.
