An auto accident usually inflicts emotional and financial burdens on the victims involved, including the surviving families who lost a loved one as a result. The driver has criminal charges ahead of him and may have litigation to confront in a civil courtroom as well. The family of the deceased woman may pursue legal action to seek financial relief based upon evidence of negligence under our wrongful death laws. The civil court system in North Carolina typically awards financial compensation if a deceased’s family is able to prove the death was caused by the negligent conduct of another party.
