A drive on the Interstate turned into mayhem when a driver rear-ended another vehicle. The auto accident claimed the life of a North Carolina woman and caused injury to a passenger. Reportedly, the driver was arrested on a number of charges, including vehicular manslaughter.

The accident reportedly happened on a recent Wednesday on Interstate 95. A vehicle operated by a 67-year-old man crashed into the back of another vehicle carrying a woman and another occupant, pushing the car forward. Authorities conducted a preliminary investigation, which suggested that the man was driving recklessly and at an excessive rate of speed. In addition, authorities believe that the man was driving under the influence.

Tragically, the driver of the other vehicle died as a result of her injuries. A passenger that was in the vehicle suffered minor injuries. Authorities charged the driver with death by motor vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. He was also charged with reckless driving and failure to reduce speed. An auto accident usually inflicts emotional and financial burdens on the victims involved, including the surviving families who lost a loved one as a result. The driver has criminal charges ahead of him and may have litigation to confront in a civil courtroom as well. The family of the deceased woman may pursue legal action to seek financial relief based upon evidence of negligence under our wrongful death laws. The civil court system in North Carolina typically awards financial compensation if a deceased’s family is able to prove the death was caused by the negligent conduct of another party.
