Wrongful death a possibility after North Carolina man was killed

North Carolina pedestrians may think that walking is a safer way to travel than by vehicle. For many, their own two feet may be their only means of transportation, while others walk for health or environmentally conscious reasons. Whatever the reason, walking does not appear to be any safer than driving a vehicle anymore. A North Carolina man was recently struck by a vehicle and killed while walking, and his family may wish to consider filing a wrongful death claim against the person who hit him.

The 23-year-old man was said to have been walking close to a nearby university. Whether he was a student at this university is unknown, but he was walking less than two blocks away from the campus at the time of the accident. He appeared to have been attempting to cross the street when he was hit by a vehicle being driven by a 27-year-old man.

Unfortunately, his injuries were very critical, and he had to be taken to a nearby hospital to be treated. Sadly enough, he lived for two days following the incident before he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. Officials are confused as to why the driver had hit the man, because the driver was not under the influence at the time of the accident. Reports also claim that speeding played no role in the incident.

Charges have not been pressed against the man driving, but it is still an ongoing investigation. The pedestrian's family will surely mourn his loss for some time. It is not easy to forget about accidents like this one, and they may want the person responsible to be held accountable for his actions. A wrongful death claim is a possible reality for this North Carolina family. If a claim is successfully litigated, financial restitution could be awarded to the family of the deceased.
