Aggressively Fighting for Injured Victims in North Carolina

North Carolina accident – multiple wrongful death claims possible

| Oct 1, 2013 | Wrongful Death |

Bicycling is much more just a means of transportation to some individuals. It can represent a form of stress relief and exercise which allows personal relationship to grow and develop. Sadly, some tragic auto accidents involving bikers occur on our highways. Wrongful death claims could potentially be filed in civil court after the recent deaths of two North Carolina cyclists.

The incident occurred when the two victims were struck by a vehicle on a Chapel Hill highway. A police officer eventually discovered the bodies of the bikers in the middle of the roadway. A 41-year-old man was already dead at the site of the accident, while a 40-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her fatal injuries.

The whereabouts of the motorist who tragically struck the victims is unknown at this time. Police are looking for any information or witnesses to the scene that could aid in their search for the hit-and-run driver. The motorist could face serious ramifications for the victim’s deaths once he or she is tracked down.

When the driver is found, the families of the two victims could pursue legal relief in a state civil court. North Carolina laws allow for a wrongful death claim to be filed when there is evidence that a fatality occurred due to another’s negligent or reckless actions. Compensation awarded from a successfully litigated lawsuit allow the victims families to better cope with funeral expenses, burial costs and other financial losses recognized by our laws.
