Elderly woman's death a North Carolina wrongful death?

It is critical for drivers to obey all rules of the road when behind the wheel. One of the most important rules to follow is to maintain one's lane. Swerving into another lane unexpectedly can easily cause an accident which could lead to serious injuries for those involved. This can be especially dangerous when a vehicle swerves into a lane with traffic heading in the opposite direction. One car seems to have done just this recently in a fatal car accident in North Carolina, which could result in a potential wrongful death lawsuit.

North Carolina car accidents can bring criminal penalties

An individual does not have to be under the influence of alcohol to face criminal charges as a result of their role in a car accident. In some case, North Carolina police may be able to investigate car accidents and determine that a driver was significantly negligent, which can result in their arrest. In a recent case, police have charged a woman after her car is alleged to have struck another vehicle, which resulted in the death of one individual and the other suffering serious injuries.

Designated drivers still drinking and getting behind the wheel

To reduce the number of drunk driving car accidents, safety campaigns urged people to have a designated driver when they had too much to drink. Having a designated driver is supposed to help everyone get home safely but a new report found that designated drivers may not be so safe after all.

NTSB wants to reduce blood alcohol content to reduce crashes

The National Transportation Safety Board recently recommended that North Carolina and all states should reduce the drunk driving threshold to .05 to reduce the number of car accidents caused by drunk drivers. They reported that roughly one-third of all traffic fatalities in the country are caused by drunk driving.
