Does your worksite value workers' safety?

If you work on a construction site, you know that dangers are present around every corner. In fact, thousands of workers suffer construction site injuries each year, often due to insufficient safety precautions or inconsistent application of safety practices. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) monitors workplace safety concerns and maintains records of the worksite areas most commonly cited for safety violations.

According to OSHA, a few components of most worksites account for the majority of all construction injuries. If you notice questionable practices around these areas of your worksite, or if you believe that your employer has not properly trained you to understand safety procedures in these areas, speak up before someone gets hurt. If you don't, you just may be the one who suffers an injury.

According to OSHA, several problem areas factor into most construction injuries:

  • Scaffolding and ladders
  • Excavation safety procedures and equipment
  • Fall protection and prevention training
  • Head protection
  • General construction safety measures
  • Electrical systems and safety procedures
  • Worksite hazards and communication about them

If you believe that the safety procedures and equipment used on your worksite are substandard, do not remain silent. Be sure to report any potential threats to an immediate superior as soon as possible. While maintaining safety procedures may seem like it slows down progress, time, resources and manpower lost due to an avoidable accident usually far outweigh the advantages of saving time by skimping on safety.

If you suffer an injury on your worksite, be sure that you have all the help necessary to get everything you deserve from your workers' compensation settlement. An experienced attorney can help you identify all the benefits you qualify for and protect your rights while you recover.
